A building block ,free, from a homogeneous urban layout and from a port cut in a jagged territory, it rises to a height of 50 meters, establishes a volumetric relationship with the ships passengers who land in the dock and a role as a monumental reference with the city.
The collective role of this place is clear, the recognizable form of architecture designed is useful to define the character of this place as a arrival from the city and the sea.
The building evokes a pyramid sectioned to revealing its interior spaces and continues to the city.
A purpose which has the project is to give citizens a component usable of the building: so the long staircase, the intermediate terrace and the view point to the share of 44.30 meters combine to complete the paths of the city in this place.
The ground floor is divided into two parts: a public entrance to the visitors, the other to the workers; these include a covered square, up to a maximum height of 25 meters to 2,500 meters of surface, it operates as open-air atrium and as a place accessible and usable for extra museum events.
The rest of the project area is large and open to the needs of the port, a direct connection at the near park with a level beneath the carriageway, put in direct relationship these two public places.
The spaces within the building are distributed by levels, with an atrium at the entrance floor, the multi-purpose rooms and exhibition galleries on the upper levels.
The surfaces of the premises are summarily those prescribed in the notice.
The rooms of the museum are settled on two levels with a surface completely free from internal structures (the express provision in the drawings is indicative); interior height of 5.70 meters and a part with double height for various display needs. The galleries are insulated, the air control is mechanical and there's the artificial lighting, only one part, ends of the volume in projection, is illuminated from the outside.
At the height of 26 meters above the horizontal volume in the appendix to the main volume there is as a public terrace, accessible from the outside through the flight of steps; here a cafe delimited by glass wavy anti-refraction and above the last level with the panoramic restaurant.
The transition to the plans of the visitors is through a system of mechanical inclined elevator and ramps of steps; another vertical mechanical system serves the staff workers and a service bar and restaurant during the period of closure of the museum.
The main building structure is steel, with elements related to large lattice girders, the incident angle at the junction of these allows you to complete horizontal structures with a single span.
All the building is free from internal vertical elements, the external walls are made of vegetable fiber with high energy performance, the outer coating of the inclined parts is composed of wood, in adherence protected by a layer of polycarbonate blister. This application of the wood allows its use as a finishing material.
